Amy is self-taught visual artist, poet, and spoken word performer.
My work explores and allows passionate expression of lived experiences. I am deeply connected to my spirituality, and my Anishinawbeg culture is a rich source of inspiration and pride. Too often Indigenous nature is suppressed, our voices silenced. The performance pieces in these works represent the act of permitting the self to express strong emotions in a way that inspires others to search for inner strength. The journey of reclaiming one’s voice can be stressful, and sometimes frightening but the rewards that come with repeated acts of courage far outweigh the challenges.
